India to levy tariffs on certain steel products from China and Vietnam
India's Finance Ministry issued an order on September 10, imposing tariffs ranging from 12% to 30% on stainless steel welded pipes imported from China and Vietnam for a period of five years.
As previously reported by The Hindu, India imported nearly 2.7 million tons of steel products from China, a during the fiscal year 2024 (April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024), accounting for one-third of India's steel imports and representing a 91% year-on-year increase. China has become India's largest supplier of steel products.
U.S. imposes 25% tariff on Chinese steel and other products
The U.S. government announced a substantial increase in import tariffs on Chinese goods, as reported. The measures include a 100% tariff on electric vehicles, a 50% tariff on solar cells and semiconductor imports, and a 25% tariff on steel, aluminum, electric vehicle batteries and key minerals. The new tax rate will come into effect in January 2025.
