Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG, the largest individual company of the globally operating Würth Group, has officially put the expansion of its Distribution Center West at its headquarters in Künzelsau-Gaisbach into operation.
“The expansion of the Distribution Center West is an important step towards further enhancing the reliability of our logistics. With this investment, we will remain competitive and strengthen the Hohenlohe region, in which our company is firmly rooted,” emphasized Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Reinhold Würth, Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Würth Group.
The commissioning of the logistics expansion constitutes a milestone in the logistics strategy of the Würth Group. In the state-of-the-art logistics center, the processes are fully integrated into the existing logistics infrastructure to avoid delivery splits to the customer.
With the new distribution center, Würth has increased its picking and storage capacities by 37 percent. The highly automated shuttle system, featuring over 104,000 container storage spaces, enables the picking of around 48,000 additional order lines daily in its final development stage. The new building is seamlessly connected to the existing logistics centers via an advanced conveyor system.
"Looking ahead, we have established the logistical foundation to support the company’s continued growth in the coming years," said Thomas Wahl, Managing Director and Head of Logistics at Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG.
For the strategic development of logistics, the Würth Group has set itself the goal of achieving an automation level of 75 percent in the companies with the highest sales volumes by 2030. The use of artificial intelligence and robotics will help us achieve this goal, increasing automation and digitalization levels across operations. This state-of-the-art technology not only ensures reliable deliveries in the future but also reduces packaging and filler materials by 30 percent.
